What does aweber.com offer?

aweber.com is an email marketing service. This means they will send out emails to a list of your subscribers that you store in their database.

Their services include:

- Email newsletters. They offer newsletter templates, facebook and twitter integration, automatic conversion of blog posts to email, and performance tracking.

- Sign up/opt-in forms. Templates and an easy to use form designer are offered to create your sign up form. Form animation and effects are also available to make your opt-in more interesting. They've also built in the ability to do split testing of sign up forms; this means you can create two different sign up forms going to one account to see which one performs better.

- Subscriber management. Aweber will collect your subscriber list for you. From there, you can do things such as segment the list, which is useful if you want to only mail to people with a certain quality, and track subscriber activity, which is very useful to see things like which subscribers are reading your messages and which links were clicked.

- Autoresponder service. Autoresponders allow you to set up a bank of newsletters to go out at a pre-set time. They also allow you to send out welcome emails to new subscribers. Aweber's autoresponder service includes handy templates and subscriber activity tracking.

- HTML email templates. HTML messages allow you to send out images in your messages, much nicer looking than just plain text. There are 150 HTML templates you can choose from with matching sign up forms.

- Blog newsletters. If you are a blogger, then aweber's blog newsletter service will convert your blog posts to newsletter format through your RSS feed and then send the newsletter out to your subscriber base. All major blogging platforms are supported.

- Email analytics. Your email analytics are delivered in easy to read graph format.

- Email marketing API. If you have third party applications you'd like to use with aweber, don't fret! You can integrate aweber with other services or tools. If you are using WordPress, they have a special WordPress Web Form Plugin to easily put an opt-in tool on your WordPress blog.

- Email deliverability. Aweber has a very useful tool to analyze your messages to help make sure they reach your subscribers inbox and don't get accidentally redirected to the spam folder.

- Email marketing knowledgebase. If you are new to email marketing, then taking advantage of the knowledgebase can help you get up and running quickly.

What does it cost?

I found aweber to be very competitively priced. For a person just starting out, having a reliable yet affordable service is key.

Their prices increase based upon how many subscribers you have. Billing is done monthly, quarterly, or annually.

Are there any drawbacks to aweber?

The one big disadvantage I've heard about aweber is that you cannot import a database of subscriber emails. This means if you are just starting out, then using aweber in the beginning is perfect.

NOTE: one person told me that she was able to transfer over her subscriber list. She had to talk to customer service to do it, though.

Other than this, everyone I know has been very happy with aweber's service.

Anything else?

I use aweber for my email marketing needs and I am happy with them. The templates they offer make it very easy for a newbie (like I was) to start out a building and maintaining a list of subscribers.
